Laurits, Optics Engineer

Laurits studied material science at the University of Tartu and specialized in optical materials. He describes himself as a person with many hobbies and interests: "Outside of work, I do love me some miscellaneous topics which go along well with my interest in different quizzes, as you have to know something about everything. Also, can't forget that a healthy body has a healthy mind, so I do spend a considerable amount of time on my physical fitness."

As for his path to Click & Grow, Laurits says "I guess Click & Grow found me, as they ordered some scientific research from our laboratory (TÜFI Laboratory of Laser Spectroscopy) - the project was successful and I was really stoked about the topic, so when I was offered the chance to continue it outside of university I did not hesitate."

Which aspect of working at Click & Grow do you enjoy the most?

The mission is top notch and the talented people around me are the cherry on the cake!

What are some of the most important things you’ve learned at C&G?

Probably all the skills that I learned from the electronical and mechanical engineers along the way. Those are probably the main skills that unfortunately did not fit my educational path, but still interest me a lot.

What is your favorite place in nature?

Any body of water that's big enough to row on

Lake in the forest

What is the biggest plant you’ve seen / most amazing plant you’ve had a chance to meet?

The General Sherman Tree is the biggest, but the most amazing has to be one specific apple tree of unknown sorts at my birth home which grows ideal apples (for my taste).

Name a song that cheers you up every time:

Queen - Great King Rat, during Covid and all the vaccinations Push Up - Teeme süsti.

How many houseplants do you have?

Too many to count, but to be fair I can't count too high.

What is your favorite plant to grow in a Smart Garden?

We used to have Corkscrew Rush-Juncus Effusus, which was a really awesome plant, but now I love all sorts of chillis.
